    How probable would it be for a narcissist to successfully convince their therapist of the alternate reality they exist in or to weaponize their therapist against their partner? I suspect this is happening with someone I know but if I am right it would be a fairly egregious error on the part of the therapist and extremely effective manipulation from this person to have fully convinced both a professional and their partner that their flipped narrative is reality. Am I paranoid or is that actually possible?

    This is super triggering but the fact that this has thousands of views and people are becoming more privy to a narc’s BS is really nice. Shout out to EVERYONE with a narc mother!

    Another way to look at narcissism is weakness. It makes it easier to assert your boundaries or just walk away. Weakness always attacks strength.

    the consistent infatuation with my weight gain during domestic violence in childhood----emotional eating during dads depression rages-----come from a culture where parents only put down and beat up kids-----Jesus never hit children and told them that they look like ELEPHANTS------she now doesn't recall she or dad ever said that about me-----nothing is ever good enough for mom

    a mother who clearly showed 100 attention to her youngest who looks exactly like her--it was her project--her emotional blanket---I was intentionally left out of their special relationship---silent distant emotionally neglected all my life-----guess who has been involved in her life? not the spoiled brat-----who has estranged herself from fam for 22 years

    This is the most accurate and insightful video I have seen about covert narcissism. You are pretty much telling my childhood story. A lot of other videos I have seen are married to the language used in the DSM V and are unable to provide real world examples. Thanks for this.

    My coworker is a narcissist I think. 1. She thinks everything is a competition. 2. When she feels jealous or insecure that another employee is better than her she starts attacking them. 3. She takes every opportunity to brag about herself and talk about how she is better than everyone. 4. She has had issues with every person she has ever met but she doesn’t acknowledge she is the problem. 5. She gets angry when she isn’t getting validation. 6. She is late everyday, disrespectful, slow, can barely complete one task in 7 hours, but she believes she is the best employee and she thinks everyone else is the problem. For example people kept getting mad at her for being slow but she said she’s just more detailed than they are and she’s a world class employee. She said everyone who is faster than her must be doing something wrong. 7. She takes credit for other people’s work. 8. She makes up lies about other people to the boss. She tells the boss she is so amazing and she is carrying the whole team and the boss believes her, but her actual work ethic is horrible. We would be absolutely fine if she got fired cause she literally does nothing. 9. She acts so sweet in front of the boss but she is mean to everyone else in private. 10. She victimizes herself and acts like she is “doing everything by herself” when in reality she is doing 1/10th of the work everyone else is doing.

    I am diagnosed with GAD and I am going to the therapist who was supposed to do CBT therapy with me. However she started digging so much about my past traumas, that my state got worse, and I had horrible nightmares. I am in dilemma whether I should continue going there at all.

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan 8 годин тому

      So sorry to hear this... Would she be receptive if you told her you needed to go more slowly? Many times clients with a lot of trauma need first to work on some "stabilization" techniques and develop a "tool set" before they can dig in to the past... Also, I often feel that therapists who are receptive to feedback and can flex for clients are excellent therapists, and those that can't flex... well, definitely not the right fit. I wish you all the best.

    Thank you so much for this explanation of why anxiety appears for no reason. My hyperventilation became almost chronic, and my sudden twitches in the head, sometimes even seizures of entire body, appear even in the situations when I am supposed to feel safe. Your advice about breathing encouraged me a lot, and I practise diaphragmatic breathing.

    Number 2, her house was spotless. Perfect. I didnt feel comfortable being there because she had germ issues, and told me I was contaminating her home when I entered. She would give me clothes to wear the moment i walked in the door and request me to shower before sex. Ironically when she stayed at my place those germ issues werent a problem and showering before sex wasnt nessacary. Its funny how the rules change in different settings. She contradicts herself to the point of manipulating her surroundings to fit her environment. Its a sickness without doubt. I began to make me sick by being in that relationship too long. The sex was the only thing keeping me interested. Everything else was stressful and chaotic.

    I had two emotionally immature parents. My dad had narissitic traits. My mom couldn't handle my younger siblings in teenage years and relied on me to take care of their emotional needs. I was a teenager myself. As I got older I took on role of taking care of parents, I never felt like they were my parents guiding me, I felt the opposite. It took me to reach 60 before learning about enmeshment and boundaries. I made major changes in my life and now I"m the scapegoat in the family. I disrupted the family dynamic. I don't care, I'm much happier and living the most authentic me life.

      So glad it was helpful - and thank you for letting me know! I do speak about the habitual emotions in some other videos... in particular, the playlist I have on emotional intelligence focuses on reading the real emotion hiding below others: ua-cam.com/play/PLhEK7JY7zF9lD3edabk8NqnCr84ry-8f4.html Some of these may be more relevant for you than others, but let me know what you think!

    Ocd and IBS.... I smell really bad and sometimes i know the smell coming out of my body. The odour is that of poop and sometimes i smell myself of intestinal gas without me passing it.. People are really embarrassed about this. They indirectly talk about the smell and their expressions of immense intolerance make me even more anxious.. making sounds of blowing noses, coughing etc People even cover their mouth. Oh God why me?

    Great video! You touch on something I first red about in the Road Less Traveled, i.e. that there is almost always something underlying most clinical mental illness i.e. unresolved childhood trauma, some life circumstance we are not ok with. A lot of mental illness, even some clinical anxiety seems to be our mind telling us we can no longer avoid or hide from something we need to resolve.

  • @francesca333

    Well done video for some clarification of the two. I have both and a big-time constant worrier all my life. Now it's worse due to a traumatic episode a while back, it's gotten so bad I got diagnosed with cPTSD and GAD and depression. Been working with these tools for well over a year but haven't really felt the results and wonder if I ever will. Also, have a therapist but I'm looking into "somatic therapy" also...for the body. I kept it all tucked down all my life, it would raise its ugly head here and there of course, but as folks do you just shove it down more and push forward. Thank you for doing what you do, it really helps, I appreciate your generosity of giving.
